If you don’t have the time or patience to bring it all to life, we’ll do it for you. Manage orders, delivery, and final install. Head east for the weekend + come back to a new home.

  • Is Upstairs only for men?

    No, not at all—and honesty we don’t believe anything should be. Except for boner pills. While we have a specific point-of-view and aesthetic that could be described as “masculine”—and believe that guys need the help more than most—we are here to work with anyone looking to create the home they want. Ultimately, this is no different than a menswear store—we may be tailored and targeted towards one specific customer, but anyone and everyone is welcome.

  • I rent, why would I need this?

    Because it's never too early to start loving where you live, and though they may not be permanent, there are plenty of rental-friendly facelifts that can transform your entire space. We're spending more time in our spaces than ever before — why not put some effort in? If there’s a hesitation around investing in something temporary, know that we will recommend pieces that not only fit the space, but also reflect you and your style. They will be able to come along for the ride when it’s time to upgrade.

  • How involved do I need to be?

    Well how involved do you want to be? You can give us full reign—or we can have more back-and-forth throughout. Our process has a few built-in check-ins (see above timeline), but it’s ultimately designed to flex to your needs. The only constant: we are 100% committed to not wasting your time. Our initial in-home consultation will give us all the necessary information needed to crush this project. So if you’d rather not get in the weeds at all, we’re ready with the roundup (wow that joke was bad).

  • I have no idea what my style is!

    Totally fine—and who needs a specific, super-defined style anyway? Maybe you like a little Madmen mixed in with downtown industrial. Maybe you want to be sleek and modern, but you also can’t say no to the heavy leather’s of the university club. We’re not going to make you choose. Our job is to find the things you like, the things that represent who you are, the things that will help make your home feel like one. And if we help you define a crystal-clear style along the way, awesome.

  • I don’t live in NYC, can you still help?

    Our current focus in New York, but think of us having a delivery range, which extends beyond the borders of the city. If you live in Hoboken we’ll definitely help you out. People from New Jersey are people too. And if you’re located far, far away, let’s talk (email listed below). This pandemic has transformed our understanding of remote work, so we’re more open to cross-country design by zoom.

  • How does payment work?

    When you’re ready to officially sign up, click above and fill out the sign up flow. No matter the level you choose, we want to have a quick conversation before asking for money. During our first meeting, we’ll first make sure the entire process is clear. Then we'll decide on the exact scale of the project. (Fees fluctuate slightly based on size of your space and exact needs—especially when it comes to the White Glove level.) Coming out of that initial design assessment we'll send you our agreed upon scope, and ask for a project deposit. Depending on the level, we’ll either wait until project end to invoice the remaining balance, or split it into two payments over the course of the project. Stripe is our payment processor, making it easy to either pay by card or bank transfer.

  • Is furniture a separate cost?

    Yes. The fees we’ve outlined above cover our services only. As a first step of the project we’ll work with you to land on a furniture budget (if you don’t already have one in your head). Then depending on the service level you select, we’ll either give you purchase links, so you can buy yourself (The Blueprint), or we’ll manage all purchases and deliveries ourselves (The White Glove). Depending on the exact budget, we may share a credit card authorization form, so that we can expedite purchasing.

  • I signed up, now what?

    You should take a second and feel proud—this is big news, your life is about to change. OK, now that you’ve done that, check your inbox. Someone from our team will be in touch to set up our first meeting based on your windows of availability. We’ll also share a few starter questions about the project. Not mandatory, but if you’re feeling motivated, this homework will help us hit the ground running.
